30 | WATERLINE September 2026 MARINA TRAINING INSTITUTE On July 31, 48 delegates took part in the Perth Study Tour, visiting five of Western Australia's premier marinas and boating facilities. The group reflected a diverse cross-section of the industry, including representatives from local government, industry suppliers, MIA sponsors, facility managers and operators, and recent IMM graduates from the broader Asia Pacific region. The day gave delegates a first-hand look at the breadth of what Western Australia’s marina sector has to offer, from cutting-edge dry-stack operations to council-run and member-based facilities undergoing major expansion. At The Boathouse Marina and Blue HQ in Fremantle, delegates saw drystack storage and vessel-lifting technology in action, including the Wiggins Marina FLX system, a technology not yet installed anywhere else in the world. At Swan Yacht Club, Port Coogee Marina and Cockburn Power Boat Club, the group explored active expansion projects, - new berths, wave attenuation, seawalls and upgraded launch ramps - each tackling growth, safety and member experience in its own way. But the real value of the day was in the conversations it sparked. With such a wide cross-section of the industry on the docks, delegates compared notes on shared challenges, swapped ideas on infrastructure and operations, and built connections that extended well beyond the tour itself. Seeing these facilities side by side, and hearing directly from the people running them, gave a level of insight no classroom session or case study could match. It's this combination of real facilities, real operators, and a room full of peers facing similar challenges that makes the study tour one of the most valued events the MIA delivers.
