Repairing The Breach

And when I understood better who God is, and what it means to be His beloved child and disciple, everything else followed. I understand Christianity as the conscious imitation of Christ, as made plain in His life, death and resurrection—the triumph of Love. My faith is a relationship with God in which I am being transformed by His Love, of which I stand in awe and wonder, out of which I see flowing everything that is good and right in the world. It is a daily living out of unconditional Love to others, to the best of my limited abilities. Giving such Love to my child, and teaching her to give it to others. Being God’s hands in the world where I can, as an emissary of His Love to the breaches—rips and cracks of destruction that wound and scar. This year, the breaches that God has brought me to are those affecting women and children who have suffered trauma. Holding and hugging through the hours of despair; bathing children with bubbles and laughter and tucking them into bed; drinking wine with women as we sit with grief and loss; and showing them that God entered into humanity’s ‘shame and violence and chaos’ and His Love is present in it with us still. 103
