Repairing The Breach

Psalm 63.2 My soul thirsts for you, my flesh longs for you: as a dry and thirsty land where no water is. “Wisdom is not gained by knowing what is right.Wisdom is gained by practicing what is right, and noticing what happens when that practice succeeds and when it fails.” 2 Barbara Brown Taylor Let’s not be too hard on ourselves. Christians have been at the forefront of great movements in the world that have released captives. The ongoing battle to abolish slavery (yes, it’s still going on) has been led by deeply committed Christians. Black Christian leaders like Bishop Arthur Malcolm, Martin Luther King Jr and the Desmond Tutu have helped us understand the horrors of keeping people captive in poverty and degradation, simply because of the colour of their skin. Within many of our churches, the deeply Godly fight to free women from patriarchal oppression and allow female wisdom to exercise priestly ministry has been won. The struggle to release from oppression and shame, those in our churches who are differently gendered or who love someone of the same gender is currently ongoing. 56
