Repairing The Breach

works in acrylics on canvas and wood panels from her studio in Oakland, California. Her figurative paintings are emotionally-charged narrative fragments infused with mysterious tension and secrecy. She often places her figures in precarious environments where anything could happen. Sometimes celebratory, sometimes lonely and disturbing, her paintings express a wide range of human desire and yearning. Aust’s work consistently features strong and vibrant colours along with figures that are both engaging and vulnerable. Through her own private study, she has been influenced by artists such as Emil Nolde, Marc Chagall, Kathe Kollwitz, and the German expressionists. Her work is represented in private collections throughout the United States. On Liturgical Art “As a visual artist, I’ve found that my art often speaks deeply to the spiritual yearnings of viewers. This has led me to create paintings for faith communities to enhance sacred space. I listen closely to the needs of faith groups to create work that speaks to the soul needs of their congregants. In many of my paintings I explore themes of relationship, community, journeying, and trust. My hope is that through my use of colour, texture, and visual metaphor, I can create work that aids in worship, asks important questions, and brings viewers closer to one another and to God.” Artist Carol Aust View Carols work at www.carolaust.com and on Facebook and Instagram Up in the Air - Carol Aust 8
