Over the centuries, a variety of names have been used by Catholics when referring to the Mass. These names have included: THE LORD’ S SUPPER When Jesus and His disciples had their last meal together. Jesus said: “Do this in memory of me”. EUCHARI ST This means thanksgiving – we give thanks for the wonderful gifts of God, especially the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. L I TURGY The people of God gather to pray together, especially on Sunday, the day of the Lord. BREAKING OF THE BREAD We seldom hear the Mass called by this today, but it is a reminder that Jesus gave His life for us on Good Friday. P A R T O N E 7
