FREO GRAPHIC Feb 2020 3 Education Report Ed provided us with a first-hand view of the world of street photography, not only presenting some uniquely interesting images, but discussed the history, styles and philosophy of street photography. Pat Halloran Education Officer ED FETAHOVIC on STREET PHOTOGRAPHY Ed was keen to point out that street photography is a somewhat contentious area, with many different views of the what constitutes street photography, from those that have a minimalist approach to any editing of their images (i.e. not allowed to edit image in any way), to the various forms of street photography where the image may even be contrived or planned on the street to elicit “the decisive moment”, that street photographers look for. I guess the big take-away for me was that street photography is a very personal mission, that should hold no boundaries, or strict definition. You can focus on architecture, people, empty streets or whatever takes your fancy as you move about with your camera. There are no rules that need to be applied in street photography, to crop or not to crop, where is the light coming from, what shutter speed is correct? In fact it seems the more you break the conventional rules, the better. these elements, which when they come together form an overall view of the image for the judge.
