TOP VEGGIES TO PLANT IN SPRING BROCCOLI Rich in vitamins and minerals, broccoli is a sun-loving crop best planted in early spring or mid- late summer. If planting outdoors, sow seeds ½ inch deep and 3 inches apart. Once seedlings reach a height of 2-3 inches, separate them to 12-20 inches apart. Space rows of broccoli 3 feet apart and water well. CAPSICUMS Offering an array of shapes, sizes and colours, capsicums are a great, easy to grow vegetable to add to salads and casseroles. To grow capsicums, select a location in full sun but protected from wind. Sow weeds in a tray or punnet and plant out when they are about 10cm tall. RADISHES Most commonly known for their colourful and peppery kick to salads, radishes are fast growers and perfect for the novice veggie grower. To plant, choose a sunny position that has some afternoon shade. Sow seeds 6mm deep in tray or punnet, cover, firm down and water well. Keep the soil moist so the seeds don’t dry out. Once seedlings have emerged about 3-4cm, transplant to garden bed and space well.
