ECCLESTONE DESIGNS @ecclestonedesigns ecclestonedesigns.com.au AN OUTDOOR escape As the hours of sunshine extend we turn to our gardens to entertain and escape from the daily chaos. Devoted to outdoor spaces that are both practical and luxurious to entertain in while seamlessly blending with indoor spaces, the modern Mediterranean garden is the perfect environment to sit or stroll on warm days while catching the cooling afternoon breeze of the Fremantle Doctor. DESIGN When designing a Mediterranean garden you can’t overlook terracotta pots, gravel pathways, stone, wrought iron, pergolas and raised garden beds. These gardens, once established, are extremely practical and laid-back and require relatively little upkeep. HARVEST Trees and plants that can be harvested, for fruit or leaves is a fundamental element of a Mediterranean garden. Popular options include olives, lemons, lavender, rosemary, pomegranates and bay leaves, many of which perform well in the ground or pots. CLIMBING Rustic constructions such as arbours and timber pergolas are great for creating shade especially when climbing plants are trained to canopy them. Jasmine, Wisteria, Bouganvillea, Roses, Boston Ivy and grape vines are all ideal selections.
