With all the predictions from the usual suspects of house prices plummeting 40% as a result of COVID-19, repeated more recently by the RBA, you could be forgiven for wallowing in doom and gloom. But a 40% drop is not what we are feeling, seeing or selling at in today’s market, nor what we are seeing for the Christmas/January market. In fact it is safe to say the Noosa Hinterland is experiencing the strongest demand in recent history, specifically due to COVID. Whether it is a little doomsday prepping or simply a shift in the way we live, the desire for a little off-grid acreage is driving the best selling market we have seen. As more in the cities get comfortable working from home, they’re asking “where do we want that home to be?”. For many, the answer to that question is the Noosa Hinterland. JobKeeper and JobSeeker payments alongside mortgage holidays have assisted many local homeowners, and some of those will face some hard decisions when the government tap is turned off and the banks start chasing loan repayments. But the silver lining is that right now we have buyers. And for this reason, NOW is the best market we have seen in years. The question we cannot answer is how long this run will last.
