Marlene Bishop Education Officer May 2024 FREOGRAPHIC EDUCATION REPORT - MAY 4 Steve Barnes one of our club members gave a presentation in May. Photographing time: landscape through a geologist’s lens MAY Education Report After a 40 year career as a geologist, Steve has amassed a vast collection of landscape and geology photos from six continents. In his talk, he demonstrated the geologist’s superpower: being able to “see” deep time. The presentation gave you ways to see and capture landscapes from a different perspective: the fourth dimension. We were enlightened in the field of geology, the bedrocks, how weathering, erosion, and sediment affects the landscape. Steve explained how and why we see the variations in our landscapes. Giving us a better understanding of what image we might be trying to capture in the outdoors. Our members saw an array of areas that Steve has photographed, with explanations of the environments. Many questions were asked, and it might make us think next time when we are taking an image that he has given us a greater understanding of our environment. A very interesting night, one which I think our members were quietly surprised how it opened our minds to the world we live in and in our photography.
