FREO GRAPHIC March 2020 3 Education Report Matt Landy – Wildside Story Teller, Adventurer and Humanitarian Pat Halloran Education Officer March 2020 We were very fortunate to have one of our own club members provide an inspirational and enthralling talk for our March Education night. Matt showed us images of some of his many journeys through Asia including countries like India, Cambodia, Vietnam and especially Nepal. Where else do you get the highest mountains in the world, dramatic landscapes, the generous friendly Nepalese people, medieval cities, monasteries, temples and sacred sites and abundant exotic wildlife. Matt talked of his treks of up to 6,000 metres in Nepal, and when the earthquake hit in 2015, and how he had to make his way out through rural China because his flight out through Nepal was impossible. Matt’s images relayed stories of the many treks with his young family, and how they are now seasoned travellers, even travelling on their own to far off destinations, like his young daughter who has just returned from India. While Matt’s images not only exposed the sometimes, not very pleasant side of humanity, they also provided an intimate and personal insight into his photography journey. He charmed us with his wonderful stories and beautiful images, all while looking for opportunities to support the local villagers and people through the charity organisation IGWR (In Giving We Receive). Our Club Facebook site has a video of Matt’s images from the night, but they really don’t do justice to the amazing stories that accompany each and every image. EDUCATION REPORT
