Freo Graphic

June 2020 FREO GRAPHIC EDUCATION NIGHTS 4 We were very fortunate to have a local landscape photographer, Nathan Dobbie present some of his images and basic workflow for our June Education night. Nathan told us of his initial adventures in photography, and how he has improved both his capturing of images and his post processing. He has even gone so far as to compare some of his earlier images to his current workflow by going back to the same locations and re-shooting the same image, albeit a bit more considered when looking at his composition and technique. Nathan presented a range of beautiful images, especially those taken in outback WA, highlighting not only the colour and scale of our native landscapes, but the sheer breadth of beauty available to us in WA. Nathan talked of his visits to Karijini National Park, and his exploits including swimming across Kermit’s Pool, carrying his camera gear in a waterproof Education report June Education Evening - NaturebyNathan – Nathan Dobbie The online recording is available at: https://youtu.be/etLj3-OGbss bag, just to get “that shot’ from across the other side of the pool. When you look at Nathan’s images, they evoke a sense of natural Australian beauty, from the deep red sunsets, to those glorious crisp sunrises, and then everything in between. Nathan manages to capture more than just the initial impact in his images, he manages to take you to that very location, showing you the rough terrain and landscape, the elegance of flowing water, and the use of light, allow you to create your own story of that place. Whether it’s using long exposures, wide angle lens or enhanced colour saturation, Nathan’s images evoke an emotion, allowing you to connect to his image. To me, this is the essence of good photography “does the image evoke emotion, feeling, mood? YES!!  Pat Halloran Education Officer
