I was also told Aboriginal people are animists. My question is, when I look at the coat of arms with animals as symbols, what is that? I see Jesus is a “lion of Judah”, the “Lamb of God” and I see the Holy Spirit is “a dove”. In my culture the kangaroo is the “first dance” and represents the infinite. The Australian coat of arms has kangaroos and emus. Why? Because they can’t move backwards. I have a long journey in front of me. I think that our spirituality and story can be woven into most scriptural readings, and I enjoy looking at the texts so that I can make those weavings whenever possible. As Christians we need to jump out of the church fishbowl and go exploring the huge spirituality that surrounds us in country. There is discomfort in doing this, but the rewards are a better understanding of God and Jesus. We need to feel comfortable with being uncomfortable because that is where we can grow in our relationship with God. It is your journey and my journey. Start walking. 53
