our neighbours Kellidie Bay Features beach shacks located on the western shore and is the bay where the native Co!n Bay oysters were #rst dredged in the mid-1800s and early 1900s. The southeastern end is where the #rst se$lement, Oyster Town, arose. The bay is the home to modern oyster leases and on-shore operations. Wangary Established in the late 1800s to service the local community, today it houses the Lake Wangary Primary School and Lake Wangary Pre-school, which cater for the surrounding area. Also, you will #nd the lovely Anglican church built in 1900 with its bell tower, the old hotel built in 1871, and the ruins of the old post o!ce, coach house and bakery. Wangary is home to the Marble Range Community & Sporting Centre, with oval, tennis and netball courts. Mount Dutton Bay Situated to the west of Wangary is the se$lement of Mount Du$on Bay, which has a modern boat ramp and boat-hire business, Heritage–listed je$y and a wool shed built in 1875 that is now a museum and cafe. Accommodation includes a caravan park and holiday homes. Farm Beach The trip to Farm Beach is worthwhile, with a spectacular beach and nearby campground. The beach is usually #rm enough to drive on and is ideal for boat launching in the summer months. A great spot for swimming, picnics and beach or rock #shing. A scenic four-kilometre drive north along the cli"-tops will take you to Gallipoli Beach, where the movie Gallipoli, starring Mel Gibson, was #lmed. Little Douglas Originally a #shermen’s se$lement, Li$le Douglas lies near the opening between Co!n Bay and Port Douglas. As it is close to the main oyster leases, it has in recent years seen land-based oyster facilities established. Most professional crab and line #shermen also launch here. It features a protected li$le bay with views across the water revealing the extensive oyster leases, the main shipping channel, and the Co!n Bay National Park and Peninsula, with Point Longnose being prominent. 10
