WHEN THE WAR CAME KNOCKING WWII saw Australia face the real possibility of an attack on the mainland by a hostile force with little to stop them but our own people and resources. One of the most critical resources was fuel for aircraft, tanks and ships and having a large safe reserve was our best chance of fighting back. This is the reason for old brick covered tanks on the south side of Cootamundra now primarily used by grazing sheep for some shade. Read on.
