Common Rail Diesel injectors and fuel pumps are more susceptible to damage than earlier diesels. They require diesel of much higher quality and cleanliness, and will not tolerate even small amounts of water contamination. They operate at extremely high temperatures and pressures (up to 45,000 psi). These conditions can degrade the diesel fuel, and leave fouling deposits that cause havoc with the exceptionally fine tolerances within injectors and pumps.
