As the Minister for Racing, I am proud of the global reputation of Victorian racing, and our world-famous Melbourne Cup, but also the significant contribution that the racing industry makes to Victoria. Ensuring the sustainability and longevity of racing globally is enhanced by this important international integrity and welfare conference. The conference theme Synergy between Species is particularly fitting in the sporting capital of Australia. Victoria is the home of three thriving racing codes: thoroughbred, harness and greyhounds, in addition to global sporting events such as the Australian Tennis Open and the Melbourne Formula 1 Grand Prix. In all such events, maintaining a fair, safe and drug-free competition is vital for the credibility of sport. ICRAV provides a unique opportunity for the world’s leading experts in racing integrity to come together and share the latest advances in drug testing and animal welfare, to protect and enhance the reputation of racing.
