Chairman, Horse Welfare Committee, International Federation of Horseracing Authorities ABSTRACT The Horse Welfare Committee (HWC) is a committee of the IFHA Executive Council and is a technical, skills-based committee made up of individuals with experience in veterinary science, horse welfare or racing regulation. The primary objectives of the HWC are to: 1. p romote good practice, harmonisation and information exchange across racing nations in relation to horse welfare matters; 2. r aise awareness amongst participants and other stakeholders of horse welfare, including to help lift industry standards; 3. w ork with other IFHA technical committees and external bodies in relation to horse welfare matters; and 4. g enerally advise and assist the IFHA Executive Council on matters related to horse welfare. This presentation provides an update in relation to the HWC’s operation and achievements since the last ICRAV and its plans to continue to promote horse welfare.
