The Italian industry providing technologies for the energy sector, represented by ANIE – the Italian Federation for the Electrical Engineering and Electronic Industry – involves companies active in power generation, transmission & distribution, and solutions for transport, industry and infrastructure. In 2023, this industry achieved an aggregate turnover of €10.9 billion (A$18 billion), marking years of consistent growth both domestically and internationally. Notably, the Italian electromechanical industry ranks second in Europe, following Germany, in terms of aggregate turnover value. Italian technologies are exported to over 100 countries annually, underscoring Italy’s leadership in technological innovation throughout the entire electric industry value chain. Italy stands out in Europe – a continent that hosts over 20% of the world’s renewable capacity – as one of the leading areas with significant results from renewable energy investments. Policies such as feed-in tariffs, tax incentives and subsidies under the National Integrated Plan for Energy and Climate (PNIEC) have been pivotal in driving investments in renewable energy projects. As a result, Italy is on track to significantly reduce its carbon footprint and renewables play a strategic role in the Italian electric sector, accounting for 37% of final demand as of December 2023. Additionally, the development of smart grids and energy storage solutions is expected to enhance the efficiency and reliability of renewable energy integration, positioning Italy as a leader in the transition to a green economy and in achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Alongside global counterparts, the Italian industry is tackling the challenge of balancing technological and economic advancement with environmental, social and governance responsibility. Sustainability is a pivotal theme, increasingly becoming the guiding principle behind business decisions. It is gaining importance within production processes through the adoption of practices that ensure minimal environmental impact, efficient resource use, waste reduction and, ultimately, a greener and more resilient future. With their expertise and technological prowess, Italian companies are well-equipped to make a significant contribution to sustainable development goals. In this context, All Energy Australia 2024 will be a significant showcase for exhibiting Italian excellence and an important opportunity to forge new technological and industrial collaborations. 10
