Leading Tasmanian tyre dealer Speedy Tyres, Devonport, has again been crowned Kumho Tyre National Platinum Dealer of the Year. The award follows their 2023 Victoria/Tasmania win and comes just 14 months after new owners Sam and El Chettle took over the business. Kumho Tyre Australia’s Paul Deer praised the Chettles for lifting an already award-winning dealership to new heights. “Sam and El, along with their team, continue to hit targets and proudly champion the Kumho brand,” he said. He also highlighted their community involvement, sponsorships, and strong store presentation. The Chettles purchased Speedy Tyres from long-time owners Brendan and Julie Healey, who established the dealership in 1984. Sam, a qualified auto electrician, runs operations, while El manages the administration. “The Healeys built a fantastic business — we’ve simply fine-tuned a few things,” said El. Despite competition from major retailers, Speedy has grown by sticking to fair pricing, local involvement, and customer loyalty. “We don’t do gimmicks. We give the best price and the community supports us,” El said. Sam credited Kumho’s wide product range, quality, and strong support for much of their success. “Once people try Kumho, they keep coming back,” he said. Supply to Tasmania can be challenging, but Kumho’s support helps overcome this. As proud locals, the Chettles emphasise their familyrun approach. “As the only Kumho Platinum Dealer in the area, we can pass savings on to our customers,” said El. The store also boasts the latest alignment technology and skilled technicians. With Speedy Tyres celebrating its 40th anniversary last year, the Chettles are already steering towards the 50th and beyond.
