CO-CURRICULAR 128 ST PATRICK’S COLLEGE STRATHFIELD LUMEN 2024 DEBATING CAPTAIN The 2024 debating season was memorable to say the least. Whilst not our most successful season to date, there were certainly many highs worth celebrating. Firstly, congratulations must go to the Year 10 B team, who debated consistently all year to earn themselves a place in the Grand Final, only to lose narrowly in a nail-biting debate against St Andrew’s Catholic College, Marayong. In addition, also to the 10 A and 12 B teams, who managed to progress past the regular season into the elimination rounds. Well done boys. Moreover, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to several members of the community whose tireless work has contributed to the success of our debating team. First, I want to thank Mrs Lombardo for her care, organisation, and unwavering support for all of us, which encourages us to perform at our best. I would also like to thank our coaches, College Alumni Chris Farag and Christian Bejjani, who have mentored me and the rest of the Year 12 team over the years, shaping us into the debaters we have become. If there is one thing I have learned as a debater, it is that debating is about more than just the speeches you give. It is about the people you meet, the connections you form, and the memories you make. That is worth more than any win and is what has kept me coming back all these years. Keep working to improve, train to win, but above all, enjoy the time you have with your mates. It will be over before you know it.
