CO-CURRICULAR 131 ST PATRICK’S COLLEGE STRATHFIELD LUMEN 2024 CO-CURRICULAR (SECONDARY) Mr S Boggs Head of Secondary Sport As the year draws to a close, St Patrick’s College can reflect on what has truly been a standout year in sports. It was a journey marked by both highs and lows, where our students showcased their talent, determination, and unwavering school spirit. From thrilling victories and unforgettable individual performances to the lessons learned from tough losses, it has been a season of growth and discovery. The commitment of our teams and their pursuit of excellence have created lasting memories that will inspire future generations of St Patrick’s young men. Let’s take a moment to celebrate the achievements, reflect on the challenges, and cherish the moments that made this a remarkable year for our school community. Throughout the year, St Patrick’s students took on the challenge of competing in the ISA, Thunder League, and RHBL competitions, as well as in combined tournaments with CAS and GPS schools. Through these tournaments, we witnessed the passion and dedication of our students as they went headto-head with quality competitors, gaining invaluable experience and showcasing the true spirit of sportsmanship and what it means to be part of this fantastic community. As with every year, the House Swimming and House Athletics Carnivals were undoubtedly the two best days on the College calendar! I would like to thank every student for their efforts, especially the House Prefects, for adding to the atmosphere and pride of both days. A huge congratulations to Hickey House for winning the House Swimming Championship and Coghlan House for taking out the House Athletics Championship. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to all the College sports captains for their exceptional leadership throughout the year. Their unwavering commitment, dedication, and ability to inspire their peers were instrumental in fostering a strong sense of team spirit and camaraderie. Whether they guided their teams through intense matches, lifted morale after tough losses, or celebrated the highs of hard-fought victories, their influence was felt both on and off the field. It was their passion and drive that truly set the tone for an incredible year of sport at St Patrick’s College. They are highlighted once more below. • Athletics – Nathan Campbell and Vice Xavier Caristo • Baseball – Samuel Avvenevole • Cricket – Jack Roberts • Football – Matteo Vaccaro • Rugby – Alex Conti • Swimming – Jaiken Poon and Vice Declan Trainor Having had the pleasure of witnessing such a wide variety of SPC sports this year, there are many highlights that come to mind. These include the First XV dominating Trinity on Breen Oval, the First XI sending sixes from the middle of Breen Oval to the front lawns of Fraser Street, SPC 13 H vs. SPC 13 I as the curtain raiser before the First XI Football, and the many Grand Finals won across numerous sports. However, I must say that the Head of Sport Highlight of 2024 was the bus trip back from St Stanislaus in Bathurst. While some teams were defeated and others triumphed throughout the day, it was the collective singing and laughter on the way back to Strathfield that created the memories we cherish—this is what sport is truly about. I would like to thank all the players, coaches, parents, and supporters for your contributions to sport at SPC. A special thank you goes to the Director of Co-Curricular, Mr Calavassy, and the Principal, Dr Lavorato, for their guidance, support, and overall contributions to sport in 2024.
