CO-CURRICULAR 141 ST PATRICK’S COLLEGE STRATHFIELD LUMEN 2024 Year 12 Students Oscar Arnold-Auland, Samuel Avvenevole, And Peter Di Mento Playing Their Final Game This season, I was given the honour and privilege of leading the baseball fraternity into another season. I have been extremely fortunate over the last four years in the baseball fraternity, winning two premierships and creating many memories through the countless hours spent playing together. Across the college, we saw a very promising season for the three teams entered into the RHBL competition — a season I am very proud to have led for a multitude of reasons. I was extremely fortunate to have worked closely with the boys in the U 14s and witnessed the incredible development the team displayed, with the boys’ knowledge and skills improving every week. The U 14s’ commitment to getting better is commendable, and it shows in their close games to finish off the season. I was also able to witness some of the U 16s’ games, in which they showed the same determination, common to all boys who compete for SPC. There is clearly plenty of talent in this team, which will continue to represent us well. The First IX played the toughest season I’ve ever been a part of at the College. In my opinion, the final stat lines are certainly not reflective of the season we played as a team. We had two draws and four games that were decided by only a run or two. We put in 100% every week and were never out of it. Thank you to Anthony, Aidan, Alex, Jack, Isaac, and Luca for developing as pitchers. These boys were aided greatly by Dylan behind the plate the entire year, a massive ask. Thank you to Liam, Adam, and James for your continued team-first mentality, built on strong offensive performances. Our penultimate game against Thornleigh will stand out as one of my favourite highlights of baseball during my time here. Out of finals contention, we were not seen as a threat to this competition heavyweight. We all got up for that game and showed that we could be a competitive team, shocking the opposition and leading us to a massive win — a nice way to finish our 2023/24 campaign. Another huge thank you must go to Oscar and Peter, both finishing up their time in College Baseball, consistently modelling leadership qualities and keeping us cohesive as a team. Thank you to all the parents, from all the training pickups to early morning Saturday starts. Regardless of whether they say it, everyone here is grateful for your constant support — this doesn’t happen without you. Thank you to any parent who scored; it’s a thankless job, yet we cannot play without you. Thank you to all the coaches: Mr O’Connor, Mr Tabbara, Michael, and Peter De Meio. Your tireless hours of work to educate the boys on this game are what keep us competitive. Thank you to Mrs Warsop for your continued support throughout the fraternity as MIC. Luceat Lux Vestra.
