CO-CURRICULAR 146 ST PATRICK’S COLLEGE STRATHFIELD LUMEN 2024 BASKETBALL CAPTAIN The 2023–2024 basketball season for St Patrick’s College First V was nothing short of successful. This year, I had the privilege of being the basketball captain and leading a great group of boys in the Independent Schools Association (ISA) competition. Having seven Year 12 students on the team elevated our ability to play with strong team chemistry, as many of us have played together since Under-13s. With all Year 12 students striving to make the most of their last season of basketball for the College, many memories and great experiences—both on and off the court—made this the most memorable season by far for me. With many high-level teams in the ISA competition, the First V did an amazing job to finish third on the ladder. It was a tough loss to St Augustine’s College in the semi-final, who went on to win the Grand Final. Although we trained very hard to achieve this position on the ladder, we would not have been able to do so without the unwavering support and dedication of our two coaches, Hayden Serrao and Stefan. They pushed us to train hard and achieve the goals we set out early in the season, and always positively encouraged us to perform at our best. I’d like to extend my thanks to Mrs Lukas, Mr Calavassy, and Mr Boggs for their endless work behind the scenes to ensure the basketball season ran smoothly. I encourage any boy currently playing or thinking about playing basketball to do so. Out of all my time at the College, my most enjoyable moments have been playing basketball. Regardless of which team you are selected for, train hard, set goals, and have fun with your mates, as you will miss it when you no longer have the opportunity to. In closing, I am truly grateful for the opportunity I have had to be the First V Captain this year. Playing for the First V over the past two seasons has been such a great experience, and I have not only made many new close friends, but also created memories that will last a lifetime.
