CO-CURRICULAR 158 ST PATRICK’S COLLEGE STRATHFIELD LUMEN 2024 CRICKET Despite not winning a premiership in either the ISA or the Northern Districts Thunder competitions, there was an abundance of playing milestones and personal achievements throughout each of the eight cricket teams representing the College. I would like to acknowledge that six teams reached the finals, with the 16 Gold team being grand finalists in their respective competition. As the MIC of Cricket, I have seen the continuous enhancement of the students’ playing ability, along with the growth in camaraderie within each team and their willingness to grow as a collective. The sportsmanship, support, and encouragement they shared with each other, officials, and opponents, were a testament to the four touchstones we adhere to at the College. The Crichton Cup continues to be a great co-curricular option for the incoming Year 7 students, with 50 students taking part in the mini season, which again was an increase from last season. If the majority of the Crichton Cup players continue to remain in the College cricket program, I can confidently predict future success in the Thunder and ISA competitions in years to come. Cricket representation continued throughout the season, with five students from the First XI gaining selection in the ISA Opens team. This included College First XI captain Jack Roberts, as well as William Allen, Alexander Au-Yeung, Matthew Plunkett, and Charlie Gray, which demonstrates the abundance of cricketing talent at the College. In addition, William Allen also gained selection to the CIS Opens team. The 2023/24 season also saw the return of the First XI squad, who toured Brisbane and participated in the Australian Schools Cricket Challenge carnival. The First XI came away with two victories, but more importantly, the touring squad had the opportunity to play limited-overs cricket against colleges from different parts of Australia. William Allen was also selected for the competition’s team of the tournament. To the family members who attended the St. Patrick’s College fixtures throughout the season, your encouragement, willingness to assist with scoring, umpiring, supplying food and drinks for the teams, and hospitality, was much appreciated, and no doubt the boys sincerely value it. From the College’s perspective, premiership trophies may not have been won, but after a season filled with continued player development and other off-field achievements, I look forward to planning the 2024/25 season for all the College cricket players in their respective Thunder and ISA competitions.
