CO-CURRICULAR 160 ST PATRICK’S COLLEGE STRATHFIELD LUMEN 2024 CRICKET CAPTAIN The 2023/24 cricket season for St Patrick’s College was one of great achievements across all teams. The opportunity to play a full season, after past summers hindered by wet weather or Covid-19, was embraced by all players and resulted in remarkable consistency across many teams. Across the age groups, although no premierships were won, special mention must go to many individual and collective achievements. In the Northern Districts competition, both the 13 Gold and 13 Black teams reached the semi-finals, as did the 16 Blacks. The 16 Gold team advanced to the grand final but unfortunately lost in a closely contested match. There were countless half-centuries scored and impressive bowling performances throughout the season, which provide great reassurance that SPC cricket is in safe hands for the years to come. For the First XI, the season ended disappointingly with a loss in the semi-final. However, this should not overshadow the incredible consistency displayed during the home-and-away season, achieving an undefeated record of 10 consecutive wins. This is a testament to the hard work of all players. Furthermore, the tour to Brisbane for the Australian Schools Cricket Championships was a fantastic opportunity to compete against high-calibre teams from Australia and New Zealand. Although we did not win the tournament, securing two wins from four games was an achievement to be proud of nonetheless. Leading this team was truly an honour and a great pleasure, and it is something I will look back on with fond memories. A heartfelt thank you must go to all coaches and teachers involved in the season, particularly Mr Dunne, the MIC of Cricket, for his tireless work in ensuring the season’s success. Special thanks are also owed to Mr Simpson for his dedication and commitment to all of us in the First XI. Our success on the field would not have been possible without his hard work and guidance off it. In past seasons, it was easy not to reflect, but I find it hard to believe just how quickly the seasons have come to a close. From the early mornings in Year 5, to the Northern Districts competition, and then three years in the First XI, I never could have imagined the successes and hardships I would encounter along the way. It is no exaggeration to say that some of my best memories have come from the time spent on and off the field over seven summers of cricket. Jack Roberts Cricket Captain First XI
