CO-CURRICULAR 198 ST PATRICK’S COLLEGE STRATHFIELD LUMEN 2024 The 2024 rugby season was one of both challenges and growth. For some teams, the season began in May at the annual Black and Green Shield fixtures against Trinity Grammar. As with much of the season, the weather disrupted several matches, but it was exciting to see the SPC rugby community take to the field for the 2024 season. When we hosted the return fixture with Trinity at the beginning of Term 2, the atmosphere created by the Year 5 and 6 Supporters’ Day was electric. The fans were treated to an exciting display of rugby, sparking an appreciation for the game among many of our younger students. As the trial season progressed, many teams demonstrated that they were working towards some strong performances in the ISA competition. Trips to Knox, Barker, and Cranbrook saw many of the younger age groups secure victories; however, our older age groups struggled to match their opposition. With the ISA season approaching, several teams entered their first game with confidence from their trial performances, while others focused on improving specific areas of their game. The ISA season produced a mixture of results, providing all teams with clear objectives for improvement in future games. The breakdown, set piece, and tackle techniques were identified as key areas for development across all teams, highlighting a collective focus for growth. Congratulations must go to 13 C, 13 A and 15 A who entered the final round of the ISA season in a position to win their age group. A special mention to the 13 A, who finished the season with a draw against St Augustine’s, remaining undefeated throughout the entire 2024 season (both trial and ISA). Well done to Alex Raheb, who represented the College in the ISA Under-16 team, and to Alex Conti and Mitchell Woods, who were selected for the NSW CIS Rugby League team. Additional congratulations to Mitchell for his selection in the Australian Schoolboys Rugby League team. Despite the mixed results this year, there is much to look forward to in the 2025 season. Our parent support is second to none and our playing group is passionate and hungry for success. The 2025 season will undoubtedly be one of rebuilding and strengthening the SPC brand of rugby. Keep working hard. Luceat Lux Vestra. RUGBY Mr M Tatola Head of Rugby Matthew Plunkett Jenson Andriano
