ST PATRICK’S COLLEGE STRATHFIELD LUMEN 2024 INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY 038 For the Year 11 cohort, 2024 has been a year of growth and unity. It has been a journey of academic pressures, rites of passage, personal challenges and an ever-growing sense of responsibility. The students have balanced schoolwork and study with social justice service and the wider world outside the classroom. From their involvement in school activities such as cheering at the Independent Sporting Association (ISA) Swimming Carnival and the Secondary House Athletics and Swimming Carnivals, it was clear that their strength as a cohort came from their diversity and collective effort. They pushed each other to do their best and celebrated one another’s successes. The fortnightly student led Man of Honour and People’s Champion awards provided significant opportunities for them to recognise examples of integrity, outstanding achievement, and hard work both in and outside the classroom. This was further strengthened by numerous opportunities for growth and character development throughout the year including whole cohort events like the Year 11 Retreat Day, as well as more specialised opportunities such as the Father/Son Evening and the immersions to Alice Springs and Fiji. It was touching to witness the way the students honoured and embraced the responsibilities that came with this season of change. I especially admire the cohort’s considerate and respectful participation in the recommendation process for leadership, as well as in the Transition liturgy where they received their Senior Black Ties. The moments of laughter shared between challenges have strengthened their bonds, helping them to become a more unified and resilient year group. It is in both the large and small moments in and around the College that they exemplified what it means to Grow Stronger Together. As they move forward into their final year, I have no doubt that the strength and unity they have developed this year will serve them well. The friendships, life lessons, and experiences they have shared will serve as the foundation for the next exciting chapter of their lives.
