ST PATRICK’S COLLEGE STRATHFIELD LUMEN 2024 INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY 046 YEAR 10 COORDINATOR “Be the One” is a theme chosen to engage, encourage and empower the young men of this cohort to become agents of change, take initiative and strive to be a source of inspiration for others. Year 10 is a pivotal year in a student’s educational journey. It is safe to say that 2024 has acted as a bridge between foundational learning and more specialised studies, helping solidify prior skills and knowledge, before embarking on the Stage 6 journey. At the commencement of the year, 44 Year 10 students participated in facilitating the Year 5 Peer Support Program. This program has been a shining example of effective leadership. Selected students have taken on the important role of mentors, providing guidance and support to our younger students as they navigate their transition into this ever-growing community. These students fostered a welcoming environment, helping their peers build confidence and resilience. Not only did this program strengthen the bonds within our community, but also empowered the Year 10 students to develop essential leadership skills, making a lasting impact on both them and those they support. A truly heartwarming moment was witnessing the Year 10 students act with care and consideration as they helped to settle the newcomers to the College. Year 10 has shown a remarkable commitment to their studies this year. With Stage 5 learning ending, this opened the opportunity for the cohort to participate in their Stage 6 Subject Selection, tailored to their personal interests and strengths. Despite the complexity and enormity of this process, the students handled it with maturity. The 2024 Co-curricular season offered multiple opportunities for the cohort to shine, with many students demonstrating outstanding individual and collective achievements. A specific mention must go to the 10 B Debating Team, who had an incredible season. Whilst their final result may not have been what they desired, the students on this team demonstrated a calm, gracious and passionate presentation of their ideas and rebuttals. All members of the Year 10 Debating Team are highly competent speakers and truly understand the idea around teamwork and effective collaboration. What a fantastic effort and achievement. This year there was a conscious effort to celebrate one another’s successes. Year Coordinator Meetings (YCM) became a focal point for this, as the Year Ambassadors and I initiated the Man of Honour and Man on Fire Award. Each fortnight, boys hoped to be nominated by a member in the College community and be recognised with our unique prize. All the successful nominees so far have exemplified compassion, kindness, leadership or commendable talent in or outside of the classroom. This tradition looks as though it will stay on for years to come! As I reflect on the journey of 2024, it is important to recognise and praise the outstanding leadership of the previous Year Ambassadors – Francesco Mazza, Dante Garrido, Marco LoRusso and Alexander Raheb. Their dedication, vision and unwavering commitment have helped shape our cohort to strive as one, connected unit. Congratulations on the appointment of the 2024-25 Year Ambassadors – Michael Bartorilla, Ryan Scullion, Guy Witt and Benjamin Kalifa. I have the upmost confidence that you will lead this year group with great poise, diligence and offer remarkable guidance. Personally, I am grateful for each individual Year 10 student and the lessons they have taught me in 2024. The students were fortunate to be guided by a dedicated team of homeroom teachers, who consistently upheld the College values. A heartfelt thank you to the parents, for your unwavering support. Your encouragement has played a vital role in shaping the positive experiences our students have had this year. As we celebrate the accomplishments of this Year 10 cohort, let us continue to inspire and uplift one another.
