ST PATRICK’S COLLEGE STRATHFIELD LUMEN 2024 INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY 076 YEAR 5 COORDINATOR Surviving the first year in any new environment always consists of many triumphs and obstacles. Year 5 at SPC in 2024 has been no different, but I would like to think that, when taken in balance, the wins have certainly outweighed the losses. Some of the memorable moments: • Anticipation and excitement on day one • Opening Mass at Olympic Park • 3-day camp at Katoomba • Representing the College at co-curricular activities in its many forms • Making friends in the classroom • Lunchtimes on the oval or handball courts • Catching public transport • Getting lost while navigating around the school From the smaller beginnings of their previous primary schools, there has been so much growth in every boy. Based on the College theme, we adopted a motto for Year 5: “From little things, big things grow.” Whilst the meaning in the Paul Kelly song was largely lost on the boys, the lines of the chorus have rung true throughout the year. Forming good habits early on and realising that, in time, they will become the young men of Year 12. But we need to grow and build now. Not the same boys who arrived at the beginning of the year. Proudly heading off to be the present and future of the College. I reminded the Year 5 cohort of 2024 that surviving the first week, term, or year of St Pat’s does not make you a Year 12 graduate yet, but we have set some firm foundations to get there. I wish all students and families of Year 5 an engaging and fruitful journey at SPC and beyond. Mr S Cooper Year 5 Coordinator First Day At The College Year 5 Students
