2 With 1,350 hospitals in Australia alone, that equates to roughly 75 million Blueys (over 1,950 tonnes) every year, taking over 100 years to break down when disposed in landfill. The Haines® Greeny® has been developed to help alleviate the burden of Blueys on our environment. While we recognise that it will take more than this to overcome the problem, we figure a highly absorbent, certified compostable alternative is a great place to start. Made of cornstarch-based bioplastic with a 5-ply paper fluff pulp top layer sourced from responsibly managed forests, Greenys® are 100% compostable and compliant with AS 473611 and EN 13432 standards. What’s more, they are 60% more absorbent than 5-ply Blueys and 14% more absorbent than 8-ply Blueys. Greenys® are also 14 times more breathable than Blueys. Higher absorbency and better breathability means a Greeny® can remain in place for longer, reducing underpad turnover. Greeny Compostable, 60% more absorbent Underpads 60% more absorbent 100% compostable Blueys are an extremely high-turnover consumable. A recent procurement audit of numerous Australian hospitals (conducted by sustainable healthcare advocacy group, TRASH) found that between 15,600 and 96,000 Blueys were used at each site per year, relative to the number of theatres. This process can take years. • B reaks down completely into all natural elements • M ay leave behind micro-plastics, but cause no harm to surroundings • No toxicity in soil COMPOSTABLE A compostable product is one capable of breaking down into soil, within 180 days, leaving no toxicity behind. • Breaks down completely into all natural elements - 90% or more to CO2, with the remaining going to water and biomass = valuable compost • No micro-plastics • No toxicity in soil If contaminated With bodily fluids, place in a Clinical Waste bin for incineration. When bioplastics are incinerated, the amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere is equal to that fixed during their growth by the plants that serve as raw material. This is an asset compared to oil. based plastic.
4 Biopack Plastic Bags The bioplastic rubbish bags are made from synthetic bioplastic combined with plant-starch – Ecopond. 7 If it ain’t sustainable, forget it. At About A Dog, we don’t live with our heads buried in the sand (except at the beach occasionally). We know every choice has an impact. So we just try to make better and better choices every day. So yeah, we’re using some resources. But we’re working in direct partnership everyday with our manufacturers to better understand how our products are made and how they can be better. We’re starting with recycled locallymanufactured toilet rolls (soon to be tissues and paper towels). And that’s an awesome start. But we won’t stop there. Most bum rolls are made… somewhere else. But our products are proudly made in Australia in partnership with a small local manufacturing business. Why? Well because Australia is pretty awesome. We’ve got Uluru, the Blue Mountains, Ash Barty… and some of the finest, softest, toilet rolls ever made. Plus keeping it local means more Aussies in jobs and more support for local families. And when our manufacturers are also our neighbours, we can meet down the pub for a beer. Better and better. Aussie made! 100% Recycled Tissue Paper - 6 Australian Made 200 Sheet Tissue Boxes Our mission at About A Dog is pretty simple. Make recycled paper products, and give back to the community that supports us by helping Aussie causes. We’ve partnered with local animal organisations, donating 50% of our profits to them! We know that all the money raised stays right here in Australia, supporting our pets and wildlife.
