Mid Western Living

30 | Mid-Western Living | WINTER 2026 Powered by IN THE COMMUNITY Can Assist: Supporting Locals When It Matters Most Can Assist Mudgee plays a vital role in supporting individuals and families across the Mid-Western region who are undergoing cancer treatment. While part of a state-wide organisation, each branch operates independently, raising its own funds to ensure that every dollar stays local and directly supports those in need. Run entirely by volunteers, the Mudgee branch provides practical financial assistance to patients who often need to travel to Dubbo, Orange, Bathurst, Newcastle or Sydney for treatment. With no government funding, Can Assist relies on the generosity of local businesses and the wider community. Initiatives such as the annual Can Cruise, weekly raffles at Mudgee Golf Club, and community events have helped raise significant funds - including nearly $300,000 from the Can Cruise alone over the past 18 years. Support is available to anyone undergoing cancer treatment, with a simple application process and no means testing required. Assistance can include travel, accommodation, medical and living expenses - easing the burden during an already challenging time. Since July 2025, the Mudgee branch has supported 130 patients, providing essential relief when it’s needed most. Can Assist Mudgee extends its sincere thanks to ACEN for their ongoing support through the Social Investment Program, helping ensure this important work can continue in our community.
