IN THE COMMUNITY A three-year project led by local members of the National Trust is underway to document and celebrate the Mid-Western Region’s rich artistic heritage. The initiative will explore the evolution of painting, ceramics, and sculpture, highlighting contributions from both Indigenous and nonIndigenous artists and and highlighting the cultural significance of the region’s visual arts legacy. The project involves extensive research, including archival studies, interviews with artists and community elders, and visits to important sites like ancient Aboriginal art locations and local Preserving the Artistic Heritage of the Mid-Western Region galleries. With the participation of over 100 artists, 15 galleries, and more than 30 art-related businesses, this study will offer a comprehensive narrative that bridges the gap in documented history, fostering a greater understanding of the region’s artistic identity. The project will culminate in a 250page book and a digital video, both designed to educate and inspire. These resources will serve as valuable tools for schools, community groups, and visitors, celebrating the Mid-Western Region’s artistic legacy and enhancing its cultural tourism for years to come. ____ For more information contact Connie Eales via email: xyzconchul@gmail.com Evamor Valley, Mudgee’s five-star eco-glamping retreat, has once again been recognised as a finalist in the 2024 NSW Tourism Awards in the Unique Accommodation category.
