24 | Mid-Western Living | AUTUMN 2026 SCHOOL NEWS Students Leading with Purpose and Pride Leadership Team: Mudgee Public School prides itself on offering meaningful and authentic leadership opportunities for our students. Each year, students nominate for leadership positions and, through a preferential voting process, eight school leaders are elected: two Captains, two Vice Captains and four Prefects. Every member of the leadership team is responsible for leading a specific school portfolio, while also playing an active role in leading school assemblies, welcoming guests, supporting special events and being called upon for a wide range of leadership and service roles across the school. Our leadership structure is further strengthened by Student Representative Council representatives from Years 2–6, who demonstrate commitment to their own portfolios and contribute positively to inclusive, school-wide leadership at Mudgee Public School. Together, these students model responsibility, teamwork and pride, helping to shape a strong and supportive leadership culture at MPS. Night of the Notables: Each year at Mudgee Public School, our Stage 3 students are offered the opportunity to take part in the much-anticipated Night of the Notables, and in 2025 our Stage 3 students proudly hosted a wonderful evening centred on the theme of notable STEM figures- individuals who have achieved excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Celebrating Excellence: A Standout Year at Mudgee High School At the end of 2025 Mudgee High School celebrated another year of the successes of our students. Throughout Term 4, students worked diligently on researching their chosen notable, culminating in an engaging night of learning and celebration. The evening began with students presenting three clever clues about their notable, inviting the audience to guess who they were before the big reveal. Students then welcomed guests to their stations, where they showcased impressive displays including slideshows, posters, dioramas, pamphlets and fact sheets. Audience members selected from a range of questions to ask each notable, which students answered with confidence and enthusiasm. Through this valuable Personal Interest Project, students discovered many new and surprising facts about their chosen figures, making the night both fun and educational for all involved. 41 Douro St, Mudgee (02) 6372 1533 Our students won the local M3 Maths Challenge, and the Science and Engineering Challenge.
