YARRAWONGA Yarrawonga Merino and Poll Merino studs achieved a full clearance of 278 rams at the studs’ on-property ram sale on Monday 16 September 2024. Rams were sold to buyers from NSW, VIC, TAS and WA to average $4183 – an increase of more than $300 on the previous year. The top-priced ram was a Poll Merino ram, Yarrawonga 231839, which made $20,000 when sold to Manildra buyers Yackenboon Pty Ltd. It was sired by Yarrawonga 210958 and carried a 17.8- micron fleece. Two rams reached $18,000, the second highest price of the day. The first, Yarrawonga 231353, sold to Wool Solutions PL, TAS, while the second, Yarrawonga 230903, sold to a partnership of Glenpaen, Brimpaen, VIC, and Grassy Creek, Reids Flat. BOONOKE POLL / WANGANELLA The annual sale of Boonoke Poll and Wanganella studs, Conargo, saw 209 rams sold to a solid crowd of buyers on Wednesday 18 September 2024. A 100% clearance was achieved, with rams reaching a top of $17,000. The sale topper was 18.4-micron Poll Boonoke 230203, which weighed 110kg. It was purchased by John Maher, Narromine. Not far behind was PB230265, which was purchased by Kate and Spike Orr, Gundarimbah, Parkes, for $16,500. The 129kg ram had a fibre diameter of 19.7-micron In the breakdown, 49 Merino rams sold to $10,500 and an average of $2489, while 160 Poll Merino rams sold to an average of $2654. ONE OAK POLL The on-property auction of One Oak Poll Merino stud, Jerilderie, held on Friday 27 September 2024, saw rams reach a top of $16,000. The top-priced ram, One Oak Poll 230B408, was initially earmarked as a keeper but ended up in the catalogue, eventually knocked down to Henry Armstrong, Pemcaw, Dunedoo. It weighed 111kg and carried a fleece measuring 19.9-micron. The second highest price of the day was paid for One Oak 230B0410, purchased for $13,000 by Amie L’Estrange and Brendan O’Dwyer, Belswick, Condobolin. A total of 84 rams sold on the day to average $2548. WOODPARK POLL The annual on-property sale for Woodpark Poll Merino stud, Hay, returned to the Conargo Sports Ground on Monday 23 September 2024, where the Huggins family offered and sold 150 rams. The top price for the day was $15,500, paid by Grassy Creek, Reids Flat, for Woodpark Poll 23-404. It was sired by Woodpark Poll 21-106 and carried a 18.7-micron fleece. The sale averaged $3110 – an increase of more than $180 on the year prior. HADDON RIG Haddon Rig Merino and Poll Merino studs, Warren, recorded strong results for its 41st annual on-property ram sale on Thursday 12 September 2024, selling a total of 263 rams for a 94% clearance. The top ram was Haddon Rig 230090, which sold to repeat buyer James Morris, Walgett, for $14,000. The Poll Merino ram weighed 124kg with a fibre diameter of 19-micron. The next highest priced ram of the day was Haddon Rig 230824, which sold for $12,000 to the Honeysett family, Trynow, Goolma. In the breakdown, 122 Merino rams sold to average $2639, while 141 Poll Merino rams sold to average $2510. MUMBLEBONE A top of $14,000 was reached at Mumblebone Merino stud’s 38th annual on-property sale at Wuuluman on Thursday 3 October 2024. A total of 344 rams sold from 381 offered to average $3017. The sale topper was 17.2-micron Mumblebone 233720 which was purchased by SA buyers Coleburra Poll Merino stud, Tintinara. It was sired by Mumblebone 180919 and out of ewe lamb, Mumblebone 220902. The second top-priced ram was also headed to SA, purchased for $11,000 by Yarlalla Pastoral, Keppoch. GRASSY CREEK The annual on-property sale of Michael and Jane Corkhill’s Grassy Creek Merino and Poll Merino studs reached a height of $12,500 at auction on Monday 14 October 2024. The sale achieved a 95% clearance, with 176 rams from 180 sold to achieve an overall average of $3545. The top-priced ram, Grassy Creek 230299, sold to Goorama Pty Ltd, “Lowlyn”, Galong. It was a Poll Merino ram sired by Roseville Park 171133, with a fibre diameter of 17-micron. In the breakdown, 161 Poll Merino rams were sold to average $3513, while 15 Merino rams were sold to top at $6000 and average $3200. – 103 –
