TOP SIRE 2025–2026 NSW FIELD DAYS Marra Field Day Saturday 13 July 2024 | Marra Hall More than 15 Merino studs from across the Central West and Riverina districts converged on the small village of The Marra for the annual Marra Field Day where they battled it out for the title of Champion Hogget Merino Ram. Matthew Coddington, Roseville Park, Dubbo, had the task of judging on the day, eventually selecting a big-framed Poll Merino ram exhibited by Garry and Donna Kopp, Towonga, Peak Hill, as the Marra Field Day Champion Hogget Merino Ram. Sponsored by Macdonald & Co Woolbrokers, the winner was sashed by Don Macdonald. Poll Boonoke, Conargo, was the Reserve Champion with Haddon Rig, Warren, placed third. A good display of local commercial Merinos were on show at the field day, with prizes awarded for Champion Pen of Three Lambs, Champion Pen of Five and Champion Flock Ewe, judged by Spike Orr, Gundarimbah, Parkes. Champion Pen of Five, sponsored by Australian Wool Innovation, was won by local graziers George and Libby Caton, “Yarrawonga”, with their May/June 2023-drop Dunbogan-blood ewes. They also claimed the Champion Flock Ewe award, sponsored by Schute Bell Badgery Lumby. Lamph Pastoral, Warren, took first and second place in the short wool section of the flock ewe competition as well as Reserve Champion in the Pen of Three Lambs. Young sheep enthusiasts lined up for the annual sheep counting competition, sponsored by Elders. Charlie Gibson from Nyngan won the junior competition, while Egelabra jackaroo Digby Munro won the under 25 category. The Marra local Kelly Earl claimed the champion lady counter, while Dubbo stock agent Lachlan Mann won the open category of the sheep counting competition.
