TOP SIRE 2025–2026 NSW FIELD DAYS South West Slopes Stud Merino Breeders Field Day Tuesday 3 September 2024 | Harden Murrumburrah Showground The Phillips family, Yarrawonga, Harden, claimed a double at the 2024 South West Slopes Stud Merino Breeders Field Day, taking home the Wendouree Perpetual Shield for Champion Pen of Three Merino Hogget Rams and the Ram of the Year titles. Seven rams lined up for the South West Slopes Stud Merino Breeders Ram of the Year, sponsored by Bromar Engineering and Riverina Wool Testers. Hamish McLaren, Nerstane, Woolbrook; Rodney Miller, Glenpaen, Brimpaen, VIC, and associate judge Bateson Pittman, Glenburnie, Walcha, had the challenging task of judging the days’ competitions. The 18.1 micron and 128.5kg Yarrawonga 231353 placed first, with judges finding it hard to look past “the pure scale and structure of the ram”. Steve, Liz and Thea Phillips claimed victory again in the Wendouree Perpetual Shield, sponsored by Schute Bell Badgery Lumby, with their group of three Poll Merino rams. “We could not get past the productivity of those sheep,” Rodney said. “The depth, the bone, the outlook, the heads – everything about them.” In second place was a team from Michael and Jane Corkhill, Grassy Creek, Reids Flat, with C.T. Merriman and Son, Koonwarra, Boorowa, third. A total of 60 member and guest Merino and Poll Merino studs from across NSW were on display throughout the day, with a good number of trade exhibitors in attendance. – 110 – SOUTH WEST SLOPES STUD MERINO BREEDERS FIELD DAY TUESDAY 2 SEPTEMBER 2O25 10AM AT HARDEN SHOWGROUND
