TOP SIRE 2025–2026 MERINOS ON FARM BREEDING BALANCED SHEEP WITH GOOD WOOL THE AIM AT CURBAN First time ewe competition exhibitors at the inaugural Castlereagh Maiden Flock Ewe Competition, David and Danielle Bonnington, along with their son Rhys, run a mixed farming operation at “Bonnayr”, Curban, with a flock of 1150 Merino ewes. Although they did not win the competition, making the most of the tools available has helped the Bonnington’s to lift their wool cut, fertility and identify high performers in their flock. Early adopters of Australian Sheep Breeding Values (ASBVs), they now employ this data in their breeding decisions, alongside classing and visual assessment. David said they first came across ASBVs through Mumblebone, whose rams they have been using for nearly three decades. “We believe in the science – if we can measure something, we can do something with it,” he said. “We’ve still got to be happy bringing the animal home, but the figures have got to add up for us too.” 1– – 32 –
