TOP SIRE 2025–2026 NSW SHOW AND SALE RESULTS Australian Sheep and Wool Show Friday 19 and Saturday 20 July 2024 | Prince of Wales Showground, Bendigo A 19-micron fleece from the Pittman family, Glenburnie, Walcha, took out the Grand Champion Fleece award at the 2024 Australian Fleece Competition in Bendigo. The competition attracted 385 entries from 131 exhibitors across Australia and was judged by Mark Symes, G. Schneider Australia, Melbourne, and John McGrath, Nutrien, Ararat. The fleece was from a two-year-old stud ewe and scored 96.2 points out of a possible 100. The ewe’s 9kg skirted fleece had a staple length of 111mm, a tensile strength of 50 Newtons per kilotex and comfort factor of 99.7. It was valued at $91.92 and also claimed the NSW Champion Fleece title. “She’s just one of those ewes that is a bit out of the box for fleece weight and quality,” Paul Pittman said. “You’re up against the best studs and flocks from all over the country, so we are humbled to come out on top.” Roseville Park, Dubbo, was awarded the Most Valuable Fleece in the Merino Performance section. In the Merino sheep section of the show, Poll Boonoke had success in the Australian Merino All Purpose section, coming away with the Champion All Purpose Meat Merino title. Poll Boonoke 231331, also known as ‘Fletcher’, won the award and also claimed the Reserve Champion March-Shorn Strong Wool Poll Ram award. In the Australian Sheep and Wool Show Merino Ram Sale, a number of NSW-based studs achieved great results. Garry and Kel Cox, Langdene, Dunedoo, and Chris and Cindy Clonan, Alfoxton, Armidale, both sold rams for $12,000 – the fourth highest price of the day – while the McLaren family, Nerstane, Woolbrook, sold a ram for $11,000. Overall, the sale saw 81 head sold to top at $25,000 and average $4642.
