TOP SIRE 2025–2026 NSW SHOW AND SALE RESULTS 80th Armidale Merino Ram Show and Sale Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 February 2025 | Armidale Showground An “outstanding ram” exhibited by the Pittman family has claimed the Supreme Exhibit title at the 2025 Armidale Merino Ram Show and Sale. Glenburnie 20046, sired by Laraben 200349, was the only entry in the event from Paul Pittman, Glenburnie, Walcha. Earlier in the day the 18.1-micron ram had claimed the Champion Superfine Ram, ahead of an entry from Shalimar Park, Walcha. Tasmanian judges Anna Cotton, Kelvedon, Swansea, and Bruce Dunbabin, Mayfield, Little Swanport, who oversaw the show, described the ram as an outstanding exhibit when declaring the winner. “He’s a spectacular ram with beautiful coverage and evenness of crimp right across the body and right down to its hocks,” Anna said. A total of 21 studs from across NSW were on display at the event, which celebrated its 80th year. The Reserve Champion was an exhibit by Merryville, Boorowa, which had been awarded the Champion Fine Wool Ram ribbon earlier in the day. Merryville 21706 went on to top the ram sale the following day, selling for $15,000 to Andrew and Patrick Davis, Demondrille, Murrumburrah, in a semen share partnership with Philip and Jenni Carlon of Queenlee, Uralla. In the breakdown of the annual sale, a total of 38 rams sold from 54 offered to average $3612. There were 48 bidders registered for the sale. The second highest price of the day was paid for Merryville 21422 at $8000, while Glenburnie’s Supreme Exhibit sold for $7000 to Tony Hamilton, Twin Rivers. The junior judging competition was again a success with 15 young Merino enthusiasts taking part in both the Merino and fleece judging. Coordinator Angus Carter said there was a good roll up, considering the school term had not begun. “They did an excellent job and spoke well about the crimp, softness, style and soundness of the fleeces on display.” The competition was won by two students from the New England Girls School. Aliyah McDonald, Narromine, placed first claiming a spot in the state finals at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, with Bridget Strachan, Sydney, coming second.
