TOP SIRE 2025–2026 NSW SHOW AND SALE RESULTS 1– 2– NSW State Sheep Show Friday 30 May 2025 | Dubbo Showground It was the sheer scale of Weealla 240389 that caught the eye of the judge at the NSW State Sheep Show at Dubbo on Friday 30 May. The August shorn Poll Merino ram was exhibited by the McBurnie family, Weealla, Balladoran, and claimed the Grand Champion Ram ribbon before going on to win Supreme Exhibit in the Merino ring of the show. It’s the second year in a row that Weealla has claimed the top honour, which was held in conjunction with the annual Dubbo Show. “He’s got scale and beautiful, rich, crimpy wool,” said judge James Barron, Adina, Peak View. It was sired by Poll Boonoke 612 – a new genetic line for the Weealla stud program. The ram also went on to win the Champion Long Wool Interbreed Ram of the show and will compete at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show in Bendigo and the Rabobank National Merino Show in Dubbo later in 2025. Also vying for the top honours was a Merino ewe from the Cox family, Bocoble, Eumungerie, which had been crowned Grand Champion Ewe of the show. The 15.5-micron March shorn ewe had previously claimed the Reserve Champion Ultrafine Ewe ribbon at the Great Southern Supreme Merino Show in Bathurst earlier in the year. “She is a very feminine ewe. She stands well on her feet and is well finished underneath,” James said. “It’s very hard to put the ewe over the ram when he’s that much bigger.” Bocoble also claimed Grand Champion Poll Merino Ewe, while the Grand Champion Merino Ram was awarded to Garry and Donna Kopp, Towonga, Peak Hill.
