TOP SIRE 2026–2027 NSW SHOW AND SALE RESULTS LACHLAN Bidders provided strong competition at the Lachlan Merinos onproperty ram sale, held on Wednesday 17 September 2025. The sale saw a full clearance of 160 rams, reaching a top of $22,000 for LM240775. Sid Dickens, Booligal, secured the top price ram. It was an August 2024-drop Poll Merino ram with a fibre diameter of 17.8-micron, sired by TW200094 and out of LM170001. The second highest-priced ram of the sale, LM240365, sold to Donald and Will Grant, “Bundabarrina”, Collarenebri, for $20,000. A 21-micron April 2024-drop ram, it was sired by Wiringa 220450 out of LM212086. Overall, the sale averaged $4560, up on the 2024 result of $3780. HILLCRESTON The 42nd annual on-property ram sale of Hillcreston Merino and Poll Merino Studs produced a solid result, reaching a top of $19,000. A Merino, Hillcreston 23-240, topped the sale, purchased by Gosywyck Partners. The finest ram in the drop it was carrying a 12.5-micron fleece with 1.8-micron SD, 14.4% CV and 100% CF. Gary and Robyn Ostini bought the second highest-priced ram of the day. They paid $12,000 for Hillcreston 23-117, which carried a 13.1-micron fleece. The highest-priced Poll Merino ram of the sale was purchased by James Sexton for $8,000. Hillcreston 23-27 was a Poll Merino sire with a 14-micron wool. HADDON RIG Repeat buyers showed strong support at the 42nd annual Haddon Rig ram sale, held at the Warren Showgrounds on Thursday 11 September 2025. Long-term clients James and Jo Morris, Walgett, again secured the top-priced ram, HR240821, for $16,000. A Poll Merino ram, sired by PB200780, he weighed 110kg with an 18.6-micron fleece, 3.2-micron SD, 17.3% CV and 99.4% CF. Overall, 246 rams were sold from 250 offered to average $2504, with 130 Poll Merinos sold to average $2662 and 116 Merinos sold to a top of $12,000 and average of $2329. The top price Merino ram, HR 240689, was purchased by Tony and Rhonda Milgate. WESTRAY PARK There was strong competition from interstate buyers at the 2025 Westray Park annual ram sale, held on-property at Peak Hill on Friday 12 September. The sale topper, Westray 240839, was purchased for $25,000 in partnership by two WA studs, Seymour Park, Highbury near Narrogin, and San Mateo, Brookton. A 20.3-micron Poll Merino, he was selected for his “sirey head” and “gutsy medium wool”. The second highest price was paid by James Warden, Kigwigil Pastoral Company, Cumborah, between Lightning Ridge and Walgett, who purchased a Poll Merino ram for $20,000. The top priced Merino ram also headed to WA, purchased for $14,000 by the Boyle family, Koolibah Farms, Broomehill, in partnership with Tom Reed, Holme stud, Narrogin. In the breakdown, 98 rams were sold from 108 offered to average $3745. YARRAWONGA Buyers were chasing wool traits and early growth at the 2025 Yarrawonga on-property ram sale on Monday 15 September at Harden, where rams reached a top of $23,000. At the fall of the hammer, 273 rams sold from 278 offered for an average of $3646. Buyers from across NSW, VIC and TAS attended, providing solid competition. The top-priced ram, a Poll Merino, was purchased by Rockford Pty Ltd, Bothwell, TAS, through Wool Solutions, Western Junction, TAS. Sired by Roseville Park 210059, it had a fibre diameter of 18.3-micron with 3.2-micron SD, 16.4% CV and 99% CF. Rockford also secured the second-highest priced ram of the day, Yarrawonga 240628, for $22,000. WILLANDRA Rams reached a top of $16,000 at the Willandra on-property ram sale at Jerilderie on Wednesday 24 September. Buyers attended from as far as Tambo in QLD, Keith in SA and Bendigo in VIC, but it was a local buyer who secured the top ram. The sale topper, Willandra 0157, was purchased by long-term clients of the stud, the McKinnon family, Deniliquin. The 133kg ram, sired by Jolly Jumbuck 213004, carried a 22-micron fleece. In the breakdown, 79 of 80 Poll Merino rams sold to average $3445, while all 20 Merinos sold for an average of $3145. The top Merino ram, sold for $10,000, went to Peter and Louise Capel, Bungulla, Manilla. TOWONGA / DARRIWELL POLL The Kopp family posted a strong on-property sale result for their Towonga, Towanga Poll and Darriwell Poll ram sale, hosted at Peak Hill on Saturday 20 September. The sale reached a top of $14,250 and averaged $2741 with 149 rams sold from 155 offered. The 2025 top-priced ram, Darriwell 24-1252, was purchased by repeat buyer John Lenehan who runs a commercial operation at “Arajoel”, Galore, between Wagga Wagga and Narrandera. Sired by Collinsville 21-2148, the ram weighed 132kg with figures of 45mm EMD and 8mm FAT. It had a fibre diameter of 20.8-micron with 3.4-micron SD, 16.2% CV and 99.1% CF. – 105 –
