TOP SIRE 2026–2027 NSW FLOCK EWE COMPETITIONS Bryant family’s exceptional mob gains back-to-back wins Mark, Jude and Charlie Bryant achieved an impressive double victory at the annual Mid Lachlan Flock Ewe Competition with their run of Bogo-blood ewes on display at their Greenethorpe property, “Billabourie”. Assessed by judges Blake Tremain-Cannon, Westray Park, Peak Hill, and David Zouch, Crookwell, their flock was selected as the winners of the long wool section, overall champion and People’s Choice awards. “Wonderful nourishment, lovely tips,” David remarked about the wool. “Wool structure means a lot and it’s exceptional in this mob of sheep.” The “Billabourie” flock was shorn in June and averaged 7.26kg of 18.17-micron wool per head. Blake commended on the skin quality of the ewes and highlighted the role of good classing in achieving uniformity within the mob. The flock was classed by Austin Grace at a rate of 34%, with focus on fertility and udder structure. The Bryant’s join about 2400 ewes to Merino sires, recording an average marking rate of 125% in recent years. This marked the second consecutive year that the Bryant family has won both the People’s Choice and Mid Lachlan overall champion awards, after a runner-up position in 2024. Second place was won by the Grassy Creekblood flock exhibited by John Fowler and his son-in-law, Justin Shortis, of Coolegong Pastoral, Monteagle. Grassy Creek’s Michael Corkhill classed their flock. Rounding out the top three overall was the Taylor family, Hazeldene Pastoral Company, Grenfell, placing third with their Pooginookblood flock, classed by Michael Elmes. The short wool section was won by Jamie and Alisha Wright, Springfield Pastoral, Cowra, while the encouragement award was won by the Starr family, Waree Pastoral Co, Cowra.
