TOP SIRE 2026–2027 NSW FLOCK EWE COMPETITIONS “Mayfield” pleased with their ninth Chris Naake title Dunedoo’s Mick and Wendy Inder added yet another trophy to the cabinet, claiming their ninth champion title in the annual Chris Naake Memorial Flock Ewe Competition. A strong field of 13 entrants from across the Mudgee and Dunedoo districts were on display for the event, which is held over two days each February. The Inder’s operate Wattlegrove Partnership, “Mayfield”, Dunedoo, where they run a medium/strong wool operation, averaging 18-micron. They have been using genetics from nearby Langdene stud for more than 40 years, with stud principal Garry Cox tasked with classing duties. Given the ewes weren’t as well prepared as they’d hoped due to a tougher season in the lead up to the competition, the Inder’s were pleased with the result. Judges Sam Phillips, Yarrawonga, Harden, and Murray Power, Airlie, Walcha, praised the Inder’s management of the flock. “They’ll cut a hell of a lot of wool,” Sam said on the day. Placing second to them in the medium/strong section of the competition was Peter and Tina Doherty, “Roine” Goolma. They have been using Trynow bloodlines for more than 30 years and presented a run of ewes classed by Mark Doherty for judging. When offering judges’ comments, Murray described the ewes as “very well classed with good wools”. In the fine/superfine section, Mark and Fiona Pilley, “Gundowda”, Hargraves, were awarded first place, while Ben and Shireen Price, “Old Tunnabidgee”, Pyramul, placed second. The Pilley’s flock, which won the same award in 2025, features a mix of genetics from Wurrok stud, VIC, as well as Langdene. The Price family had a run of self-classed ewes on display which were a mix of Langdene and Tara Park bloodlines. They proved to be a spectator favourite and were awarded the Peter Gallagher Memorial People’s Choice Award. 27th Chris Naake Memorial Flock Ewe Competition Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 February Photo caption.
