TOP SIRE 2026–2027 NSW SMBA TRUST PETER WESTBLADE SCHOLARS Shearing contractor Tom Davey and stock hand Rhiannon Hennessy were named as the 2026 Peter Westblade Scholarship recipients. Recipients were announced at the annual Peter Westblade Scholarship Ball in Wagga Wagga on Saturday 23 May 2026, with Tom and Rhiannon among five finalists which also included Heather Walker, Miranda McGufficke and Zach Starr. Hailing from Harden, NSW, Rhiannon said she was looking forward to shaping her own on-farm practices by learning how industry leaders manage their unique environmental challenges. She would also like to explore current and emerging genetics in the sheep industry and learn more about integrated supply chains and marketing. Tom, from Boorhaman, VIC, said he applied for the scholarship to surround himself with like-minded people and industry professionals who could help him grow his career and business. One of his goals is to learn more about sheep selection and classing, while furthering his knowledge of pasture management and stock nutrition. Alongside with their own scholarship journeys, Rhiannon and Tom will join Heather, Miranda and Zach for specialised tours and events over the next year, strengthening the group’s knowledge and networks before being individually matched with mentors to provide guidance and assistance to build their careers in the sheep and wool industries. The NSW SMBA Trust is a proud supporter of the Peter Westblade Scholarship, extending its commitment in 2026 by becoming a Platinum Sponsor of the initiative. 1– 2– Photo captions. 1– 2026 Peter Westblade Scholarship recipients Tom Davey and Rhiannon Hennessy with chairman Joe Walden (centre) receiving their awards at the scholarship ball in Wagga Wagga. 2– The finalists of the 2026 Peter Westblade Scholarship, (L–R) Miranda McGufficke, Zach Starr, Tom Davey, Rhiannon Hennessy and Heather Walker.
