TOP SIRE 2026–2027 NSW SHOW AND SALE RESULTS 81st Armidale Merino Ram Show and Sale Wednesday 4 February 2026 | Armidale Showground The Pittman family’s Glenburnie stud claimed top honours at the Armidale Merino Ram Show for the second year in a row, winning Supreme Exhibit Ram at the 81st event. Glenburnie 21711 impressed judge Gavin Swords, Laraben Poll, Mudgee, who commended the 17 exhibitors for the quality of the Merinos entered in the show. He highlighted the pure wool, strong build and coverage of the rams presented for judging. “The breeders are dedicated and knowledgeable. They are producing high-quality sheep that meet industry demands,” he said. Glenburnie’s September 2023-drop ram weighed in at 119kg with an 18.3-micron fleece. Sired by Airlie Don, it had already shown promise in the show ring, having been awarded Champion March Shorn Superfine Ram at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show at Bendigo in 2025. The reserve champion ram was claimed by another local stud, an ultrafine exhibit shown by the Pearson family, Glenbrook, Armidale. The Glenbrook ram weighed 106kg with a 16.6-micron fleece. The event featured a new one-day program in 2026, with both the show and sale held on the same day. The purpose for this change, echoing the discussion around the shed on the day, was about preserving the tradition of the Armidale Merino Ram Show and Sale, which stands as the state’s last remaining multi-vendor sale outlet. While the number of rams sold and the overall top price were back on the previous year, the sale average was up by more than $150. In the breakdown of the sale, 30 rams sold from 38 offered to average $3768. It reached a top of $10,000, with three rams claiming equal top price rights. The Reserve Champion Superfine Wool Ram shown by the Rayner family, Grathlyn and Lynford Poll, Hargraves, was one of the three that sold for the top money. It was purchased by Willow Glen, Numbla Vale, via Cooma. Two rams from the Merriman family’s Merryville stud, Boorowa, also sold for $10,000. The first ram, judged the Champion Fine Wool Ram at the show, was bought by James Feilen, Merrigang Pastoral, Ando. The second ram was purchased by a syndicate of Bill and Margie Doak, Box Moor stud, Bundarra, and the Carlon family, Shalimar Park stud, Walcha, who bought a semen share in the sire. Merryville offered a team of seven rams, of which five sold to an average of $5,000. The Pittman’s Supreme Exhibit also impressed buyers, selling at auction for $6000 to David Grills Partnership, Guyra. Queenlee’s Reserve Champion Fine Wool Ram was sold to Mark Waters, Goulburn, for $5500, while Egelabra stud, Warren, sold the top of their offerings for $4000 to long-term clients, the Lanz family, Deepwater. Angus Dawson, Arakoon Poll, Armidale, claimed back-to-back wins for the Champion Junior Two Tooth Ram which sold for $2000 at auction to Wards Mistake, Guyra.
