Hire a bike (you can also book a guide in advance) and ride one of the many trails in and around Melrose. Cycle out to the showgrounds (easy) or tackle the Epic Mount Remarkable trail (difficult!). Bike repairs are available in town, along with coffee and gourmet food. Hike the Mount, take a shorter walk to Cathedral Rock or just stroll around town, perhaps visit the Melrose Courthouse Heritage Centre. Take your time to explore what Orroroo has to offer – an 1880s settler’s cottage, a giant red gum tree, Ngadjuri rock carvings and a poem etched in stone. At Tank Hill Lookout, view Orroroo, the reservoir and the Walloway Plain. BUNDALEER RESERVOIR Bundaleer Reservoir Reserve is located between Spalding and Gulnare. This picturesque reservoir is currently stocked with golden perch, silver perch, Murray cod, rainbow trout and brown trout. With a fishing permit, you can drop a line in from the shoreline or paddle out in your kayak or canoe. Fishing is permitted anywhere within the fishing zone. HALLETT The birthplace of Sir Hubert Wilkins, you will find Hallett on your journey from Jamestown to Burra. Take time to explore the region along Dare’s Drive. Along the way view the majesty of the man made windmill structures cascading along the ranges. Pop into the general store and grab a bite or a special something to remember your trip.
