www.visitjamestown.com.au 5 If it seems that all roads lead to Jamestown, you are right! Here are some of our favourite routes, each with their own charms. FROM ADELAIDE: 2.5 hour drive on sealed roads Via the Clare Valley: Head out of Adelaide on the Northern Expressway, take the Clare/Tarlee exit. Continue along Main North Road to SA’s famous Clare Valley wine region. Head north of Clare on Horrocks Highway, turn right to Spalding on RM Williams Way. Keep heading north and when Bundaleer Forest comes into view you know you are nearly at Jamestown. Via Mallala, Balaklava & Blyth: Exit Adelaide on Pt Wakefield Highway, and exit the highway onto Mallala Road (a right hand turn). At Mallalla, you’ll sweep to the left of the war memorial onto Balaklava, Blyth, Clare and Spalding, where rolling hills form a backdrop to crops of canola, barley, wheat and hay. Via Burra, Mount Bryan & Hallett: Head out of Adelaide on the Northern Expressway, go past the Gawler exit and take the Clare/Tarlee exit. After passing through Tarlee, keep driving north and look for the exit onto the Barrier Highway. This will take you through Riverton, Saddleworth and Manoora. When you reach Burra, stay on the Barrier Highway and head to Hallett. At Hallett turn left onto Wilkins Highway towards Jamestown weaving through the towering wind turbines. The views are especially beautiful when the crops are full of life and colour. Via Port Wakefield & Crystal Brook: Exit Adelaide on the dual-lane Port Wakefield Highway past the township of Port Wakefield, then take the sweeping bend right to the Augusta Highway. You’ll drive through Lochiel with its enormous salt lakes. Turn off the highway at Crystal Brook and keep heading east towards Jamestown via Gladstone. FROM THE FLINDERS via Hawker & Orroroo: Travel through vast pastoral landscapes and at Orroroo checkout the kangaroo sculptures and old wool press before you head South towards Jamestown. via Quorn, Melrose & Caltowie: Get closer to stunning Mt Remarkable while driving through the pretty towns of Melrose and Wirrabara. Head east after Stone Hut to Caltowie and Jamestown.. FROM PORT PIRIE From Port Pirie head east on Augusta Highway, taking time to admire the stunning Southern Flinders Ranges. Turn right onto Augusta Highway and then turn left onto Wilkins Highway. You’ll travel through Gladstone and Caltowie. FROM THE EAST From the historic copper mining and Merino sheep town of Burra, follow the Barrier Highway to Hallett, then follow the Wilkins Highway to Jamestown. BUS IT Buses run regularly between Jamestown and Adelaide, courtesy of Yorke Penisula Coaches. www.peninsulacoaches.com.au WHY NOT FLY?
