Gii: Translates to "Heart." The cardiorespiratory rehabilitation program, aptly named Gaba Gii, meaning 'Good Heart' in Gamilaraay language, embodies our commitment to both the physical restoration of the heart and the emotional wellbeing of our participants As our longest-standing exercise initiative at WAMS, the Gaba Gii Cardiorespiratory Rehab physiotherapy program remains a cornerstone of our clinical service delivery. This supervised program is specifically designed for participants managing cardiac and pulmonary conditions, serving as a vital pathway for those requiring additional support to re-engage with exercise. Whether recovering from a cardiac event, transitioning post-surgery, or managing high-risk disease, our clients benefit from a safe, monitored environment tailored to their clinical goals. The program’s success is reflected in its exceptional retention; while we continue to integrate new referrals, the group maintains a core of longstanding attendees who provide a sense of continuity and peer support. Beyond the clinical markers of cardiovascular health, participants frequently report significant improvements in their social and mental wellbeing. This holistic impact, combining physical recovery with the enjoyment of community connection, ensures that Gaba Gii continues to be a highly valued and effective program for the WAMS community. Walanbaa Falls Prevention Physiotherapy group program 1130-1230 Wednesdays "Walanbaa" is inspired by the Gamilaroi language "standing strong" Inspired by the Gamilaraay language and interpreted as "Standing Strong," our Walanbaa physiotherapy program is a specialised physiotherapy initiative dedicated to falls prevention and confidence building. Targeted toward individuals over the age of 50, the program supports those who have previously sustained a fall, those identified as being at risk, or those who experience a debilitating fear of falling. Sessions focus on a tailored mixture of low-to-moderate intensity exercises designed specifically to improve lower-limb strength, balance, and stability. Recognising that wellness is as much about connection as it is about physical safety, the program concludes with a shared morning tea. This allows participants to stay for a yarn, fostering a supportive social environment that reinforces the "standing strong" spirit of the group. Warranggal Strong program Physiotherapy group program 2pm-4pm Wednesdays “Warranggal” Strong/ Powerful (Gamilaraay, Yuwaalaraay, Yuwaaliyaay) Drawing its name from the Gamilaraay, Yuwaalaraay, and Yuwaaliyaay words for "Strong" or "Powerful," the Warranggal physiotherapy program is our premier physiotherapy exercise initiative focused on metabolic health. This program is specifically targeted toward individuals living with metabolic conditions, those identified as prediabetic, or those at an elevated risk of cardiovascular disease. The sessions are structured for maximum efficiency and impact, with participants rotating through six dedicated five-minute stations to complete 30 minutes of moderate-to-high intensity exercise. By combining strength-based movements with endurance training, Warranggal empowers our clients to take an active role in managing their health, fostering the physical strength and resilience its name represents.
