Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service Limited ANNUAL REPORT 2024/2025 4 Funded by: Federal Dept of Social Services – National Indigenous Australians Agency NSW Health – Rural Doctors Network – Western NSW Primary Health Network Celebrating over 39 years of Service since 1986 Quality in Culture Through meaningful partnerships, education, and deep community engagement, the Culture and History Coordinator has strengthened the cultural foundations of WAMS and contributed to a growing sense of healing, pride, and connection. This role is instrumental in shaping an in-house Cultural Model, driving meaningful cultural awareness initiatives, and coordinating commemorative events that honours the strength and resilience of our culture and community. These efforts have deepened WAMS’ commitment to being more than a healthcare provider “We are a place where culture is lived, shared, and celebrated every day”. Negotiations are ongoing with Michael Bennett for archival recordings and interviews. We have also recently acquired historical documentation from Michael Anderson, that we are looking at options for preservation and storage of these precious materials. Quality in Governance Our Board of Directors consists of local Aboriginal women who oversee WAMS corporate activities and are committed to employing local Aboriginal staff. CROWE and KPMG continue to assist WAMS with auditing and financial support including overseeing funding obligations and reporting requirements. Human Resources and Business Plans are also an ongoing process, and these are still being developed and reviewed. Conclusion At the end of this reporting period, we were invited to meet with committee members of the Wee Waa Local Aboriginal Lands Council (WWLALC) for preliminary discussions. They are keen on exploring the possibility of a partnership with WAMS to establish a business case with the view to opening an outreach clinic in Wee Waa for gaps in service delivery. WAMS are keen to assist, and ongoing discussions are planned. As always I wish to thank the current Board of Directors and CEO for their knowledge and wisdom. Together we work to achieve better health services and outcomes for Walgett and the surrounding communities. The staff are the true champions of the organisation who provide the much needed on the ground support and clinical expertise to accomplish the directives of the CEO and Board. We are looking forward to the next twelve months as we plan for our 40 Years Celebrations in April 2026. MARY PURSE, CHAIRPERSON. BOARD OF DIRECTORS
